42 Days Until NaNoWriMo 2017

If I could sum up 2017 in a single word, it would be intense. Arduous would be appropriate, too. In April, I moved to Seattle, Washington. Through May and June, I queried my novel, hunted for apartments, and enrolled in college.
June through August heralded earning work as a freelance writer, attending summer classes, acclimating to Seattle, diving into writing groups, and making new friends.

Like I said, intense but in the midst of the hectic life of a writer-student-failed vegetarian, I decided it was time to put on my boxing gloves and do the ultimate challenge: NaNoWriMo.
If you don’t know about it, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. It begins November 1st and writers have until November 30th to write a 50,000 word novel. That’s 1,666 words per day and approximately 5.5 pages.
Nothing is as maddening, hectic, challenging, insane, and REWARDING, as NaNoWriMo. Whether I win or lose, I’ll gain valuable insight from other writers, improve my craft, and push myself further than ever before.
I might make it sound cliché but it’s a rather daunting and exhilarating experience. Or so I’ve been told. This is, after all, my first year.
Besides, 2017 started out with a bang, it might as well end that way. NaNoWriMo is the cherry on the top for me. Wish me luck!

Any chance you’ll be participating in NaNoWriMo this year? Are you a veteran with advice to give the newbies? Let me know in the comments!
