Book Review: Elemental by Whitney Hill

    Elemental Featured Image

Let me just say wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW. This book is amazing and I am so happy that I got to read and review it. (Next book now please?!) via GIPHY Let’s start with the cover. It is everything I love: simple, clean, eye-grabbing and it’s my favorite color, blue. This cover is beautiful and after reading the book, it most definitely portrays it accurately. We see our MC, Arden Finch, front and center with some kind of magic coming from her hand and based on the title we know it’s some kind of element control. Simply, I love this cover. via GIPHY Our story is set in North…

DNF Review: The Maven Knight by Matthew Romeo

I have never done one of these before, but here it goes, I DNF’d this one. via GIPHY I worked through to halfway and had to stop. I wanted so so badly to love this story! It’s everything I normally like, high and epic fantasy, a brand new world, wars, impending doom, a brave and valiant hero, but in all of those, it fell flat. BUT let’s start first with what I did like because there was still some of that. I love the premise of this story, like LOVE it. It very much reminded me of a mash-up of Star Wars and D&D. The world has a very deep…

House of Ash & Brimstone Book Review Image

As we all know, I definitely do judge books by their covers and while I hate to start a review off negative (especially when I actually loved the book), I did not like this cover. It’s not that the design itself is bad, it’s definitely good quality artwork, I just…don’t like it. Too much is going on and honestly, it makes both the characters look immature. After reading the book, I don’t think it does the story or characters justice either. Then we have the blurb, oh you sweet, beautiful blurb. I don’t often get to read urban fantasy books about demons, especially not with them living among humankind peacefully…

Book Review: Terrible Lizard A Memoir of my Time in the Police Dinosaur Unit by Doug Goodman

This book had me at the cover. How could I not read a book with a velociraptor on the front? I am a huge fan of the Jurassic Park franchise so when this was offered I jumped at the chance. Overall the cover is clean cut, and eye grabbing. I wasn’t a huge fan of the blue font on blue background, but the muted cityscape perfectly highlighted the terrible lizard on the cover The blurb, while a little long for my tastes, was a very accurate description of the book. It’s written as a memoir and each chapter tells a different step in the journey of Oak Jones and Banshee,…
